- What about HIPAA compliance? – All of our services and policies are HIPAA compliant. For more information on how we help you become compliant and on the security of our service, please refer to our compliance section
- What about compliance with regulatory agencies regarding retention? – Our software offers multiple advanced retention policies. Many clients keep snapshots of their data at various points in time to satisfy auditing requirement. For example, you may need to keep your accounting software snapshots as of the last day of each quarter for 4 quarters, and also a year end for several years. Our advanced retention policies are comprehensive and virtually limitless.
- Where is the data stored? – Backups are stored in a world class data center with 24/7/365 security, biometric access, CCTV, etc. The data center is a fully controlled environment with multiple fail safe systems and full 2n redundancy to ensure your data is safe, protected and always available. You can rest assured that no one, not even our employees will have access to your data.
- How secure is the data? – All data is encrypted before it ever leaves a clients computer with 256 bit AES encryption. Further, the connection from the client software to our servers is 128bit SSL, the same encryption banks trust. Without the ‘user provided’ encryption key, access and restoration of files is not possible. We do not store or have access to encryption keys.
- How long does it take to backup a large number of files? – We first use advanced compression technologies to shrink the amount of data that needs to be transmitted through the internet. Most commercial broadband internet connections (DSL, Cable, T1, etc) offer upload speeds of 1,024 Kbps or more. At this speed you could upload a 7,000 MB backup overnight, or 30 GB over a weekend. Remember that you only need to upload each file one time. Then daily incremental backup happens in just minutes. Use our handy Transfer Speed Calculator to calculate how long it will take to upload your data.
- Do you support versioning? – YES, with a combination of our retention policies and scheduling options, you can determine exactly when and how many versions are kept. These settings can be made in days or copies.
- Do versions hog disk space? – NO, using our in-file delta technology, we only store the individual blocks of data that change within each file. This makes it possible to store many versions of the same files while only consuming fractional disk space growth. For example, lets say you have a Quickbooks file that is 100BM, and you add just one transaction. When the backup occurs, only a few bytes of data will be backed up. This allows the backup to not only be lightning fast, but also preserves disk space.
- What’s the difference between MS Exchange Backup and MS Exchange Mail Level Backup? – The difference is that exchange backup will backup the entire information store while the mail-level backup will backup and allow for restore of individual accounts, emails, contacts, calendar, tasks, notes and public folder items when required by their end users.
- Will it work through my company firewall? – YES, our software is designed to work through port 443 (which is required for web browsers to function).
- Can I access my files online? – YES, simply login from any page on our website by clicking the “Client Login” link. This will take you to a secure login page where you can manage your account and access your files. This can be very handy if you are away from your computer and need access to an important file.
- Are the backups scheduled or continuous? – Both, or either. We offer a feature called “continuous data protection”. You can also control how often to look for changes and also what interval to keep snapshots. More information on this powerful feature is available in the user guide.
- How do I know what to backup? – When you install the software, it will suggest some common folders to backup like your documents, Outlook, favorites, your desktop, etc. You can also manually choose any files or folders visible on that computer.
- What happens if the backup gets interrupted? – No problem. The software will simply pickup from where it left off on the next scheduled backup. If the internet connection is disrupted for a short amount of time, the software will wait for the connection to be restored and resume from where it left off.
